Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG ), Station 582, is an all-volunteer search and rescue (SAR) team based in Pittsburgh that has offered support to government agencies responsible for missing, lost, and injured person incidents since 1985. AMRG will help locate, access, stabilize, and transport patients in wilderness and suburban settings. AMRG will also aid in searches for suspected crime victims and evidence searches. These services are provided at no charge. AMRG's primary response area is Allegheny County and the Region 13 area of southwestern Pennsylvania. We will also provide mutual aid in the surrounding areas in West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland. AMRG provides the volunteer component of the Allegheny County Child Abduction Response team and is a member of the Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Council, the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, and is the only team in the state of Pennsylvania that is accredited by the Mountain Rescue Association.

Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group has about 70 members who come from a wide range of backgrounds and there are many ways to contribute to our mission of helping find and rescue lost and missing people. From ground searchers to canine handlers to drone pilots, as well as administrative, medical, communications, and base management roles to support our field operations. We utilize our volunteer's skills and experinces in many ways.

AMRG provides all of the training needed to help our member become experinced and capable SAR technicians, including land navigation, wilderness survival, wilderness first-aid, and rope rescue. We also provide funding and support to attended outside training, praticularly seminars for our search dog handlers. AMRG is a licnsed PA Dept. of Health QRS (Quick Response Service Ambulance), a PA VRSR (Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition) cerified swiftwater rescue team, and is a key component of the Allegheny County Child Abduction Response team. AMRG's training and certification helps members meet stringent Mountain Rescue Association and National Association for Search and Rescue standards.

No prior search and rescue experience is needed to get involved with AMRG. Anyone who is interested and willing to help is welcome to check out our requirements and apply for membership. AMRG provides all of the core search and rescue training and helps guide you through other outside certifications that may be needed.

AMRG accepts new members in cohorts once or twice a year. Our 2025 new membership window closed on March 29th, 2025. The next new member application window will open in early 2026. If you are interested in getting involved in search and rescue, please contact us to be added the mailing list for information about our 2026 membership class. Prospective Canine Handlers and people with previous SAR experience and certification are encouraged to apply throughout the year and do not have to wait for a membership window. We have immeadiate opening for experienced or prospecitve trailing/tracking dog handlers.
